Other Programs

At Cloud Elementary, we celebrate the diversity of our students and families. We're proud to offer English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) support to help students whose first language is not English develop strong English language skills while continuing to learn grade-level content. Our ESOL program is available to all students who qualify, and families do not need to request special assignment to access these services as all Wichita Public Schools offer ESOL services. If your child qualifies, they will automatically receive support.

Our ESOL teachers work closely with classroom teachers to provide targeted instruction in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. We believe that learning English is a journey, and our goal is to help every student build confidence and proficiency at their own pace. We also value and respect the languages and cultures our students bring to our school community. Cloud Elementary is proud to offer a Newcomer Program for students who have recently arrived in the United States. We understand that adjusting to a new country, new school, and new culture can be challenging. The Newcomer Program provides intensive support to help these students learn English, understand how American schools work, and develop the life skills they need to thrive in their new community.

In the Newcomer Program, students learn in a supportive classroom alongside other students who are also new to the United States. This creates a welcoming environment where students can learn from one another, share experiences, and build friendships with peers who understand their journey. Our Newcomer teachers provide specialized instruction in English language development, cultural orientation, and academic skills tailored to meet each student's needs. As students grow in confidence and English proficiency, they  transition into a regular classroom settings with support from our ESOL team.
